First Aid Courses

With extensive experience of working outdoors and with groups who need to be kept engaged we are able to offer First Aid programmes that are relevant, exciting and up-to-date. We incorporate lots of practical outdoor scenarios that help embed learning and keep participants on their toes!

We can deliver First Aid courses to school staff, youth groups, students, D of E groups and voluntary groups, delivered at your venue or based at Brokerswood Country Park (BA13 4EH).

Please note – there now is no such thing as a ‘HSE Approved First Aid Course’.

Our courses are accredited through Omni – Health Care and our Outdoor First Aid Courses are accredited through the Institute of Outdoor Learning (see below).

Emergency First Aid at Work – 6 hour

Course Description:
– A nationally recognised first aid qualification
– Run on site at your premises or a local venue
– First aid handbook for each participant
– Continuous assessment throughout the course
– First Aid Certificate valid for 3 years

Course Overview – At the end of the course participants will be able to:
– Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
– Deal with an unconscious casualty
– Carry out resuscitation on an unconscious casualty
– Control bleeding and manage shock
– Be able to recognise and deal with a wide range of common injuries until the arrival of medical care
– Maintain first aid records
– Use and maintain first aid kits

IOL Accredited Level 3 Outdoor First Aid – 16 hours – Including Paediatric First Aid

Course Description:

THE BEST – MOST RELEVANT – MOST ENGAGING COURSE IN WILTSHIRE! And accredited through the Institute of Outdoor Learning.

A comprehensive 16 hour, Band 3 qualification following the Institute of Outdoor Learning’s framework – Suitable for D of E Leaders, Forest School Leaders, and Outdoor Instructors (Mountain Leaders, SPA, HML’s) who work in remote settings (up to 2 hours from help).

– Leading to a nationally recognised first aid qualification
– Delivered by professional first aid instructors
– Run in 80 acres of woodland and lake setting
– In depth first aid manual for each participant
– Practical assessments throughout the course
– First Aid Certificate valid for 3 years

Course Overview – At the end of the course participants will be able to:
– Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
– Deal with an unconscious casualty
– Carry out resuscitation (CPR) to adults / children & infants
– Recognise and respond to choking to adults / children and infants
– Control bleeding and manage shock
– Deal with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
– Deal with a casualty suffering burns and scalds
– Manage eye injuries
– Deal with casualties overcome by fumes or suffering from poisoning
– Recognise and deal with symptoms of hypo / hyperthermia
– Deal with a broad range of common injuries and illnesses until the arrival of medical care – especially in a remote area and water based settings – including methods of moving casualties
– Maintain first aid records
– Electric shock
– Specific issues relating to working with infants and children – including asthma, anaphylactic shock, febrile convulsions and recognition of meningitis
– Use and maintain first aid kits
– Practical usage of outdoor equipment in first aid scenarios
– These courses will incorporate a variety of outdoor scenarios to cement learning and give the participants a chance to share experiences / ideas / good practice

The WOLT are skilled in their ability to engage, enthuse and educate- being able to deliver first aid courses to under 16 year olds – making them exciting, relevant and fun!   These courses can be delivered at one of our venues or your own venue.

Skills Development
