Course Description:
THE BEST – MOST RELEVANT – MOST ENGAGING COURSE IN WILTSHIRE! And accredited through the Institute of Outdoor Learning.
A comprehensive 16 hour, Band 3 qualification following the Institute of Outdoor Learning’s framework – Suitable for DofE Leaders, Forest School Leaders, and Outdoor Instructors (Mountain Leaders, SPA, HML’s) who work in remote settings (up to 2 hours from help).
– Leading to a nationally recognised first aid qualification
– Delivered by professional first aid instructors
– Run in the great outdoors
– In depth first aid manual for each participant
– Practical assessments throughout the course
– First Aid Certificate valid for 3 years
Course Overview – At the end of the course participants will be able to:
– Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
– Deal with an unconscious casualty
– Carry out resuscitation (CPR) to adults / children & infants
– Recognise and respond to choking to adults / children and infants
– Control bleeding and manage shock
– Deal with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
– Deal with a casualty suffering burns and scalds
– Manage eye injuries
– Deal with casualties overcome by fumes or suffering from poisoning
– Recognise and deal with symptoms of hypo / hyperthermia
– Deal with a broad range of common injuries and illnesses until the arrival of medical care – especially in a remote area and water based settings – including methods of moving casualties
– Maintain first aid records
– Electric shock
– Specific issues relating to working with infants and children – including asthma, anaphylactic shock, febrile convulsions and recognition of meningitis
– Use and maintain first aid kits
– Practical usage of outdoor equipment in first aid scenarios
– These courses will incorporate a variety of outdoor scenarios to cement learning and give the participants a chance to share experiences / ideas / good practice... See MoreSee Less
